Many rounds of editing on Waking In Illur, book 3, have been completed. While this is a needed achievement for publication, I am nowhere near finished. I still have to go through a few more editing cycles. Each edit gets faster, but they all take considerable time.
Editing is necessary and fulfilling. I get the opportunity to polish something I put my heart and soul into before giving it to the world. Again, it just takes time. Since I am trying to figure out exactly how long the process takes,I made spreadsheets of data dealing with both writing and editing. It has become obvious that no matter how much I improve the speed I write, editing will slow the project.
This is important because it will help determine how many books I can write in a year.
Just in case you wondered, it took me 23 work days to finish round 1 of editing. Since I try to spend time with family on the weekends, the total time to edit was 30 days. Most days, I could reach my goal of 11 pages.
This edit took a while because it was the first time going over the whole book. I don’t edit as I go, although I look at the previous paragraph each time I sit down to write. It is instinct to adjust anything that doesn’t make sense. This makes the first edit a long and arduous process.
